SoulPreneur Tip #4:
Get clear on YOUR definition of success.
Back when I started my first business, my definition of success was simple. Because I started my business as a hobby and I had no expectation or thought as to where it went. I wanted to add fun to my life, so I did.
I wanted to add intrigue, growth, and learning to my life, so I did.
I wanted to help people in a way I was good at, in a way I knew how to, and in ways I knew I could. So I did.
I truly believe that because of my intentions and the nonexistence of worry, I immediately attracted high-ticket clients. One of my first jobs was a 10k contract. I had been in business less than 3 months and it was a high-profile client. Even still, to me, this was a secondary source of income and something fun I could do in my spare time since my daughter was going through a teenage phase of "not wanting to hang out with mom" so I kept myself busy. I had a career working 9-5. So this business was fulfilling a passion for me.
I was having a lot of fun.
It felt like I was in a TV show. I worked for the mayor of a nearby town, I searched for missing people. I reunited loved ones. I worked cold cases...I interviewed thousands of people.
All of the certifications I gained were for the fun of learning. I went to seminars and lectures for fun.
I had built a system to send out invoices and accept payments swiftly, but I never thought about the money. I never worried about money. I had a high paying career and a super-fun hobby on the side that I happened to get paid for. And it eventually ended up paying more than my 9-5 job. You see, my 9-5 job was slowly losing it's ability to support me on a passion-scale. So my business eventually took over my heart, too.
And there I was, fully exchanging my heart-centered service with financial abundance and, I was open to accepting all other forms of abundance as well. Checkout these 20 Forms of Abundance in this Free Download. I was open for business (envision flashing open sign here). I was accepting clients (envision flashing open sign here). I was open for serving others (envision flashing open sign here).
I wasn't merely stressing for the dollar, I was living the life. I was serving others. And the more I served others, the more I made.
My passion was fully supporting me in every way.
And THAT was my definition of success.
To do something I loved, that didn't feel like work. To be able to help people in ways I knew I could, and to have fun doing it. Even if I had made a fraction of what I made financially I would have still felt and declared myself as successful.
All these years later, my definition has evolved a bit. All those things above are still a part of it, I've just added some things to it like:
- Meaningful relationships.
- New experiences.
- A loving and supportive community.
- The perfect amount of learning and challenge.
- Freedom.
- No-Limits & No Lid. Meaning, I'm building something that will forever expand and grow in any direction it's destined to go. I've chosen to teach in two areas that will forever expand, so it's impossible for me to get bored.
- A full-heart.
So my question to you is... Lora, what's your definition of success?
No one else's, just yours. Because you get to choose this, for you. ❤️
oh,
...
and one more question.
If you look into your definition of success in your business. And you look into your definition of success in your life, are they the same?
Lora
