Do What You Love #26
Welcome to Your Weekly SoulPreneur Tip + SoulPreneur Academy News!
Do you ever sit and wonder what your next step should be? Have you ever worked yourself into a corner with thoughts of to-do lists and should-do lists?
Have you ever "shoulded" yourself to death with all the shouldsâor shoulded yourself right into overwhelm?
This week, I have two thought experiments for you.
First, take out your good olâ to-do (should-do) list and replace all the should-do's, to-do's, and ought-to's with: COULD-DO.
After all, you could do any of themâif you wanted to. Unfortunately, we tend to bog ourselves down with everything we "think we should do," when in reality, they are all simply possibilitiesâcould-do's. Options. Simply voluntaryânone required.
Entertain the possibility that you have a choice here and that there is nothing you actually "should" do. (Who made up that word, "should," anyway?)
Letâs check it out:
The word "should" originated from Old English and has Germanic roots. Here's a breakdown of its linguistic history:
Old English:
The word "should" derives from the Old English word sceolde, which was the past tense of sculan, meaning "to owe" or "to be obliged to." This reflects its early usage related to duty or obligation.
Proto-Germanic:
The Old English sceolde stems from the Proto-Germanic verb skal-, which also carried meanings of obligation or necessity. Variations of this root appear in other Germanic languages, such as Old High German (scal), Middle Dutch (scolde), and Old Norse (skuldi).
Shift in Usage:
Over time, "should" evolved from a sense of owing something or being obligated to do something (literal debt or duty) to its modern English usage as a modal verb expressing advice, expectation, or conditionality.
You See? You don't owe anything to anyone. You don't have a duty or obligation to anything or anyone other than what you are creating.
And creating from your heart and from your being is FUNânot a debt that is owed, not an obligation, not an expectation.
Your creativity is fun, joyful, childlike, and an expression of your soul. Which moves us to the next part of the exercise:
Secondly, write a list of all that you LOVE to do. If you don't love what you're doing, others will feel thatâYOU will feel that. You'll feel heavy, bogged down, uninspired...
So, replace the shoulds with coulds and start a new list of what you LOVE to do. Keep looking at this list. You want to be looking forward to your work because your life's work is not a job. Your life's work is an adventureâfull of love, creativity, impact, and expression.

My Final Words This WeekâŚ
Stay true to yourself by following your heart. What lights you up? What inspires you? What do you love to do? These high vibrational energies you feel when you think about what you love and what you love to do is a clear indication of your path.
It's your energy system showing you the way. Life really is effortless and flowy in that way. We get to do what we love. In fact, it's how we can make the most impact. Plus, when we do what we love - the money really does follow.
This doesn't mean that you won't have challenges along the way, it just means that the love we feel for what we are creating, how we are impacting, and the ways we serve overpowers all the challenges we face and in the end, makes it all worth it.
Every time I'm faced with a challenge, I just keep thinking about the dream, the goal, the vision... and before I know it I'm through it and ready for the next one.
Happy creating.
With love and light,
Lora
